MSL Landing Site Selection: The Votes are In!

It looks like the top three sites are Eberswalde, Holden and Gale. The “middle” ranked sites are Nili Fossae and Mawrth Vallis, and Miyamoto and South Meridiani are the lowest two.

Remember, the results of this meeting are a recommendation, not a binding contract. This will be passed on to the project science group, engineers, and managers and they will make their decisions and recommendations. There will be another worksop in april to narrow down to a single top choice, and then everything will be passed to headquarters for the final decision.

Overigens, gisteren in de chatsessie met Emily Lakdawalla kwamen de zeven kandidaat-landingsplaatsen uitgebreid aan de orde. Mijn voorkeur was Holden Crater. En die zit er nog steeds bij, yes! Op die afbeelding hierboven zie je overigens ook nog andere Marsvehikels staan: MER-A1 is de Spirit, MER-B de Opportunity, VL-1 en -2 zijn de Viking Landers, MPF de Mars Pathfinder en PHX tenslotte is… de Phoenix, yep.
